Thought it might be nice for everyone to learn a little about what drives me each and everyday
My 18 mth old daughter is my inspiration and who continues to drive me towards my dream. She is my everything, and my most unwilling model 🙂
When she was born, it was discovered she had Hip Dysplasia in her left hip. We thought it may happen as we do have a family history of the condition, so I already had a fair idea of what to expect thanks to many hours of research. It did get worse though, when she was 6 weeks old we were told that it was in both hips, and the condition was worse than first thought and surgery was the only option. That was extremely hard to hear, and heartbreaking
Nov 16th 2010 was the day of her Bilateral Open Reduction, I had researched the procedure as much as I could but it still couldn’t prepare me for the emotions of that day, which still haunt me to this very day.
I needed something to distract myself that day, so I did what I do best and documented it.
Once the surgery was over my baby girl was in a hip spica, which is a plaster cast that goes from her chest right down to her ankles. In the end she was in it for 12 weeks, over summer and for her first Christmas. There was one cast change, which happened Christmas eve.
Since her cast was removed, her hips are making great progress. Her surgeons are so happy with her. She crawled for the first time at 13 months of age, and while she is not yet walking I don’t think she will be far from it.
She is such a little character, very stubborn but very determined. Her determination is what drives and inspires me to move forward with my dream. I want to show her, she can do anything she wants no matter what. Her father and I will support her through anything and everything.
