The first half of this year, is my time to practise as much as I can and to learn as much as possible before I head in the portfolio building phase. So I thought it would be helpful for me, to write the things I’ve learnt from the previous shoot.
Trust my instincts
I need to trust my instincts more, I had all these plans in mind before the shoot and tried some of them but even before I arrived at the shoot my instincts told me most wouldn’t work. If I had listened to my instincts more time could have been spent on the ideas that did work.
Directing
The biggest area I know I need improvement on, is directing people while shooting. I struggled so much with this, I had all the ideas in my head but struggled to communicate them properly. The only thing to change this is going to be shooting more and gaining confidence again.
Weather
Pay closer attention to the weather, it was hot, humid and just plain yuck. No fun for a pregnant woman being asked to pose in that weather. Not much fun for myself either
Believe in myself
I am my own worst critic, I probably told Steph a 100 times that I couldn’t be sure we would get anything good from the shoot. In the end, we’ve ended up with some great shots that I am really proud of.
I CAN do this!!
